Cathy: I just completed the most beautiful box to hold the shower gift for our soon-to-be grandson. The shower is in Los Angeles so we are shipping the gift ahead of time to the mom's sister to take to the party. The gift itself is a small artist-signed sculpture of natural materials of a precious little boy with his hands covering his eyes, as in hide and go seek. The sculpture, which weighs about 6 pounds, is wrapped in a lucious soft blue baby blanket with satin edging. Each surface of the box is a stand-alone piece of art. I put the invitation to the shower on the inside bottom of the box; the inside lid has all kinds of inspirational sayings that the mom can prop up and look at in the nursery; the bottom of the box has more inspirational and fun stuff. An explanation about the artist herself and her work is inside the box, as is the handmade card explaining why we are giving her the sculpture (it's a family heirloom). I put a huge ribbon around the box and set it into a shipping box, diapers stuffed all around for packing material. So she doesn't have tons of packing material to throw away.
